Color Physics– Paintings by George Kochev
On display January 11-March 31, 2016
About George Kochev
Born and educated in Bulgaria (BA/MFA in Painting, 1993) George Kochev came to the US in the summer of 2000 for a solo exhibition in Washington DC. He later returned to the US in 2003 to pursue computer science education, earning an MS degree from The George Washington University in 2012.
This intersection of art and science is the basis for his bodies of work. “Studying art is a scientific process. Perspective uses geometry, anatomy uses medicine and knowledge about colors is based on physics.” Kochev’s goal is to implement simplicity in an aesthetic way. “The paintings are the way I feel free and not obligated to report why I am painting this or that.”
His paintings are a combination of linear sensitivity and spots of pure color. Many painters and scientists have inspired him in his goal for painterly liquidity. “I find ways to merge and blend the colors with all their characteristics. Finding the balance between the warm and cold, light and dark, strong and soft, are only a few but typical problems to explore.”
