GW Virginia Science and Technology Campus Hosts 10th Congressional Art Exhibit (2013)
The university, in partnership with U.S. Rep. Frank Wolf, R-Va., hosted the 10th District Congressional Art Show March 21 through April 22, 2013. The exhibit, displayed at the GW Virginia Science and Technology Campus (VSTC), featured more than 325 works by nearly 200 area high school students, representing 23 schools from the 10th Congressional District. Geographic representation included Loudoun, Clarke, and Fredrick Counties, as well as parts of Fairfax and Prince William Counties, and the cities of Manassas, Manassas Park, and Winchester.

GW President to Speak April 18 at Loudoun Chamber Leadership Luncheon
GW President, Dr. Steven Knapp, will be the featured speaker at the April 18th Leadership Luncheon Series hosted by the Loudoun County Chamber of Commerce. He will share his thoughts on the University's plans for the Virginia Science & Technology Campus, as well as activities throughout the Commonwealth, in a speech entitled "The George Washington University and Loudoun County: Our Future Together." Join us on Thursday, April 18, 2013, from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. at The National Conference Center.

New Transportation Safety Grant Awarded to NCAC
The National Crash Analysis Center (NCAC) received $106,000 in funding from the German automotive manufacturer consortium Working Group AK 251 to assess the real world safety trade-offs of the belted vs. unbelted occupant testing requirements of FMVSS 208, the U.S. standard on occupant crash protection in frontal crashes.

Construction Update on the New Building: Dirt Piles, Heavy Equipment, and Permits
Construction began in Nov. 2012 on the dual-purpose collections and conservation resource center to be located on the GW Virginia Science & Technology Campus in Ashburn, Virginia. Construction is well under way with substantial completion and occupation of the facility projected for fall 2013 and full operation of the facility projected for early 2014. The building will feature a 22,000 square foot state-of-the-art collections and conservation resource center and an adjacent 30,000 square feet of additional space, to be designed and built out for future academic and research activities.

The GW Virginia Science & Technology Campus was nominated for the new Community Leadership Awards, presented by the Loudoun County Chamber of Commerce at their annual meeting on Jan. 31, 2012. GW was a finalist in the large organization category, along with Middleburg Bank, Howard Hughes Medical Institute Janelia Farm Research Campus, and Miller & Smith.

University to Guarantee Admission to Virginia Community College Nursing Graduates
A new agreement, signed ceremonially Jan. 28 in Richmond, provides a pathway to receive a bachelor's or master's from the George Washington University's School of Nursing for those who have an associate's degree from an accredited nursing program at a Virginia community college.

GW Professors Receive Renewable Energy R&D Grant from Dominion Virginia Power
Professor Andrei Afanasev, GW Department of Physics and Professor Mona Zaghloul, chairman of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, have received a $150,000 grant over two years from Dominion Virginia Power. Their project seeks to engineer solar cells that use the unique properties of quantum dots to raise conversion efficiency of solar light into electricity.

In this seminar, noted security experts will discuss their views on how linking two historically separate disciplines, information security and software security, can address the vulnerabilities in our software, networks and services…and ultimately increase enterprise security. This panel discussion is being held as part of the Dean's Seminar Speaker Series at the VSTC.
