Leaders around the globe are becoming increasingly concerned with cyber security issues. Attacks, like those on Target, Sony and the US government’s Office of Personnel Management, are multiplying and becoming more sophisticated. Companies and government agencies need to prevent financial loss and identify theft, as well as protect their public images when breaches happen.
These trends are stimulating an increased demand for skilled cybersecurity professionals among private employers, governments and non-profits. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts an increase of almost 650,000 cybersecurity jobs by 2022. To keep pace with this trend, GW’s College of Professional Studies (CPS) is offering a new bachelor’s degree completion and second bachelor’s degree program in cybersecurity. The Cybersecurity bachelor’s degree is intended for students with associates or non-technical bachelor’s degrees who are looking for entry level positions and advancement in the field of security.

The new bachelor’s degree in cybersecurity is offered under the umbrella of the growing GW Cyber Academy, which provides state-of-the-art degrees, certified training and applied research to address the nation's workforce needs in cybersecurity.
The Academy offers a "one-stop-shop" approach to government agencies, private companies and military branches that are interested in working in collaboration with academia to solve contemporary cybersecurity problems and to prepare them to address emerging and evolving threats.
In addition to the new bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, program offerings include:
- Bachelor's Degree in Integrated Information, Science, and Technology (IIST)
- Master’s Degree in Cybersecurity Strategy and Information Management
- Three new undergraduate certificates in Protection and Defense of Computer Networks; Cyber Attacks and Cyber Threats Analysis; Investigation of Cyber Security Incidents.
- Specialized training classes, including customized corporate training programs.
