Internet-related crime is now a multi-billion dollar industry and the infrastructures of technologically advanced countries are alarmingly vulnerable to attack. The recent attacks on The New York Times and the announcement by the Pentagon to grow the U.S. Cyber Command workforce nearly 5-fold over the next few years speak to the growing urgency of enterprise security.
The software we rely on has deep-seated flaws. The networks and services we depend on work well most of the time. Like much of today's complex lifestyle, however, they are remarkably fragile to those who know the most.
Securing the enterprise, whether large or small, requires all parts to work together. Please join us for our next Dean’s Speaker series event as internationally recognized information security experts, Dr. Diana L. Burley and Mr. Kenneth R. van Wyk, discuss their views on linking two historically separate disciplines, information security and software security—as well as taking a holistic view towards developing the cyber security workforce—as being the key to increased enterprise security on our software, networks and services.

Mr. Kenneth R. van Wyk
- Internationally recognized information security expert and author of the O’Reilly and Associates books, Incident Response and Secure Coding;
- Monthly columnist for Computerworld;
- One of the founders of the Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT ®) at Carnegie Mellon University’s Software Engineering Institute;
- 22 years of experience as an IT Security practitioner.
