Construction Update on the New Building: Dirt Piles, Heavy Equipment, and Permits

Construction began in Nov. 2012 on the dual-purpose collections and conservation resource center to be located on the GW Virginia Science & Technology Campus in Ashburn, Virginia. Construction is well under way with substantial completion and occupation of the facility projected for fall 2013 and full operation of the facility projected for early 2014.

The building will feature a 22,000 square foot state-of-the-art collections and conservation resource center and an adjacent 30,000 square feet of additional space, to be designed and built out for future academic and research activities. More information

Recent Construction Activity has included:

  • The design work on the building is finished;
  • The project has received all required building permits;
  • The site has been filled and building pad grading complete;
  • Foundation work is close to completion.

Plans for Facility Completion and Occupancy:

  • The building structure will be complete in early summer 2013;
  • Substantial completion and occupation of the facility is projected for fall 2013;
  • Full operation of the facility will begin in early 2014, following collections relocation.
