Christopher J. Deering assumed a new role of senior associate dean and associate provost of VSTC in September 2013. In this position Deering will guide overall campus operations in Virginia. He also will help VSTC expand its research and academic activities.
A dedicated GW employee, Deering has served the GW community both as a professor and academic administrator. He worked as the associate dean for budget and planning for the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences and as chair of the Department of Political Science. Additionally, he presided over GW’s Research and Instructional Technology Committee. The university recognized his service in 2012, awarding him an Oscar and Shoshana Trachtenberg Prize for University Service.
Outside of the university, Deering served as director of academic planning and development at the American Political Science Association’s Congressional Fellowship Program. He was also part of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health Policy Fellows Advisory Board.
He is currently dedicated to his new role at the VSTC full-time, in addition to continuing to teach one course in the political science department.
He earned his B.A. in Political Science at the University of Southern California and his M.A. and Ph.D. at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
