GW hosts the fourth annual event April 28 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. More than 18 workshops and seminars, including a Finance Fair track, are designed to support Loudoun business by sharing best practices and making good business connections. The event also includes an after-hours networking reception, a silent auction, and an exhibitor hall.

Robert Ballard, oceanographer and explorer best known for discovering the shipwreck of RMS Titanic and founding The JASON Project, will speak to local business leaders, educators and elected officials on the issue of science, technology and the new workforce. Brian Fitzgerald, executive director of the Business-Higher Education Forum, will also address how corporations are taking the lead in supporting STEM education and future careers in science and technology.

Exhibit: On display through April 28, 2011
Reception: Thursday, April 14, 2011, 6-8:30 p.m.

10th District artwork submissions to the annual Congressional Art Competition sponsored by the US House of Representatives, Rep. Frank Wolf, are on display in Enterprise Hall through April 28. The national competition, featuring works from high school students, includes all congressional districts in the nation. Each district selects a Best in Show that will hang in the Cannon Tunnel of the U.S. Capitol for one year. Awards to be announced April 14, 7 p.m. at the opening reception by Rep. Frank Wolf. With the Loudoun County-based Virginia Science and Technology Campus and multiple graduate education centers in Alexandria and Arlington, as well as the Hamptons Roads Center in Newport News and the Advanced Technology Center in Virginia Beach, it is only logical that GW would support a new bill by Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell (R), which proposes to help 100,000 more Virginians earn degrees over the next 15 years.

More than 100 friends and relatives filled a large classroom as 17 members of the first Bachelor of Science in Nursing cohort participated in the first Pinning Ceremony held at the GW Virginia Science and Technology Campus by the new School of Nursing. Guest speaker for the event was Susan Hassmiller, Special Advisor on Nursing to the President of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
